Detainees in Remon prison are exposed to violations and aggravated retaliatory penalties

April 22, 2024

The Commission of Detainees and Ex Detainees Affairs published in a report issued today the details of retaliatory measures imposed by the administration of Remon prison against detainees.

The commission based its report on the testimony of its advocate during a visit to detainee ( H. S), as the detainee was exposed to intense beating all over his body by Nahshon Special Forces, causing him bruises, during his transfer from the cells of Ofer prison to the cells of Remon prison.

The detainee informed the advocate that the prisons’ conditions are getting worse in all aspects, in which they live in aggravated and retaliatory circumstances that lack the minimal livelihoods, represented in the following:

. Detainees are served with poor quantity and quality of food

. All clothes and mattresses covers were confiscated

. They were not provided by summer clothing, despite the hot weather in the daytime in prison

. 11 detainees are held in the same room

. They are allowed to one hour in the prison’s courtyard, but most of the time they are deprived of it without any reason. For instance, they got punished and deprived of going to the courtyard if they pray loudly

. The adhan (call to prayer) is prohibited in the prison

. Detainees are deprived of medical treatment and they only given painkillers

. No electrical supply throughout the day, except for the time of counting process

. Sections lack cleaning supplies since two weeks, resulting in the spread of insects and dermatosis among detainees

The commission emphasized that what has been narrated is a simple part of the retaliatory measures series imposed against our detainees since more than 7 months, motivated by revenge and increasing the physical and psychological torture against them.
